Maharishi, Covent Garden, London

19a Floral Street  Covent Garden

The Maharishi flagship store was opened on Floral Street in September 2001, designed by respected architect Francois Scali in conjunction with Hardy Blechman, owner and Creative Director of Maharishi.

The merging of eastern influences with a raw industrial edge naturally depicts the ethos with the use of spray painted bamboo units positioned against backgrounds of bare brickwork, columns and over-head piping - all original characteristics of the store that were restored to visibly enhance their natural form. Plants displayed around the entrance of the store complement a 6 metre glass bridge that leads on to the women's floor, emphasising the blend of nature with innovative architecture.

The store holds the men's and women's mainline collections as well as the mhi and denim ranges. Covering two floors, the product sits alongside visual artwork from current and past collaborators, including camouflage beanbags and graffiti based paintings. Books displayed above the rails reflect Maharishi's ethos and include subjects that are close to the company's heart. Japanese Art, Sacred Geometry, Army Uniforms and Action Man are just some of the titles that can be purchased, as well as a selection of rare Japanese toys. An additional room houses the children's line, providing unique surroundings in the style of the store. The room incorporates camouflage patterned playground flooring with low ceilings, creating the ultimate retail haven for kids.

The environment creates a personal, warm and relaxed ambience, with a lived-in feel that allows the customer free access to browse through the collection and also sit and read through a book. The store reflects surroundings that are inspired by spiritual philosophies fused with skill and ingenuity, resulting in the creation of a unique space, an urban sanctuary.
