| As the name suggests, this pub has a very strong Canadian influence. Sporting memorabilia adorn the walls and include a Montreal Canadians shirt and ice hockey stick as well as canoe paddles, a moose head, Mounty’s uniform, totem pole and a life size wooden red Indian. Nothing left to chance!
The clientele, however, is thoroughly international, bound together by a common thread of affection for this very well known and well liked pub. It is spacious, comfortable and welcoming with a good bar to lean on complete with brass foot rail, standing room for the group imbiber and comfortable seats and tables around the walls and up at the back.
The selection of draught beers includes John Smiths, Kronenbourg, Molson, Fosters, Guinness and Guinness Extra Cold and Scrumpy Jack cider. Bottled beer abounds and includes some of Canada’s best - Moose head, Sleeman’s, Molson Canadian and Molson Canadian Ice. There is a good choice of others as well as Smirnoff Ice and Bacardi Breezer. The house wine is a very reasonably priced £9.35 with an interesting selection going up to £12.70 and also available by the glass.
The food is wonderful! A choice of 11 quick serve dishes for those in a hurry includes Hudson Bay cod and chips, big country beef and ale pie and chicken carbonara all for a little over £5 average. There is a wide choice of snacks such as poutine – the classic Quebec dish of fries with melted cheese and gravy - and a house speciality of buffalo wings Canadian style with celery, carrots and blue cheese dressing. These cost a very reasonable £3.95 per pound or £5.95 for two pounds. Sandwiches, burgers, and jacket potatoes are all on hand as are sharing platters and buffet menus with perfect snacking/drinking food - golden scampi pieces, breaded mushrooms and hot and spicy chicken wings. Chef’s specials adorn the blackboard and maintain the high standard’s of quality and value for money found at The Maple Leaf.
Several TV screens show Sky 1,2 3 and Sky Sport Extra and the pub has a very useful cash back facility of up to £50.
