9 & 11 Villiers Street Covent Garden
A welcoming, friendly pub, it has lots of standing room for convivial groups as well as tables and quiet recesses for a more intimate exchange. There is a good selection of draught ale including Shepherd’s Neame's Spitfire and London Pride as well as draught Stella, Foster’s, Worthington, Guinness, Guinness Extra Cold, Carling Extra Cold and Addlestone’s Cider. The bottled beer is international in flavour with Becks, Stella, Tiger and Castle leading the ranks. Add a good selection of wine and the Bacardi Breezers, WKD’s and Smirnoff Ices of this world and there is truly something for everybody.
<> The menu again caters to a variety of tastes and does so at very reasonable prices. Main dishes are mostly £5- £6 and include casserole of beef in brown ale, smokey chicken fillet in focaccia and a really fulfilling all day brunch. Vegetarians are not forgotten and will hasten to the gnocchi gorgonzola or roasted red pepper and new potato casserole. Lite bites for the not so hungry include topped fries, red pepper tempura and the maximo platter of drinking support food for £10.95 to share with friends and loved ones. The choice continues with open sandwiches all for under £4 and jacket potatoes which you can design yourself from a wide selection of fillings. Beef and veggie burgers beckon as do hand held snacks and wraps such as hot duck wrap and spicy Cajun vegetable wrap. All this and side orders and desserts too!
The wine list is well chosen, comes mostly from Australia, New Zealand and Chile and reflects the marvellous value for money offered throughout The Griffin. All wine costs from £8.25 - £11.95 per bottle and can be bought by the glass and there are often special offers to be had on wine and some food items.
