| In the biggest and most radical cast change for years, Cameron Mackintosh has put together a fantastic new cast of Les Miserables who will be part of the 20th anniversary performance in October this year.
Just as the original cast in 1985 was drawn from a wide cross section of the Arts, the 20th anniversary cast led by the brilliant Welsh tenor John Owen Jones straight from a triumphant 1400 performance run as the Phantom at Her Majesty’s theatre will bring together one of the most exciting casts in the shows historic 20 year run. From starring in ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Full Monty’ comes leading black actor Cornell John as ‘Javert’. As ‘Enjolras’ is up and coming R&B artist Sean Escoffery who played the lead in ‘Smokey Joes Café’ and ‘Tommy’. Former Les Miserables star Barry James and Claire Moore will be the rascally ‘Thenardiers’ playing opposite each other for the first time since they co-starred in Cameron Mackintosh’s original ‘ Little Shop of Horrors’ production in 1983. As ‘Fantine’ comes the original star of ‘We will Rock You’ Kerry Ellis, who also recently played ‘Ellen’ on the UK tour of ‘Miss Saigon’. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s discovery and star of “ The Beautiful Game” Shonagh Daly is cast as ‘Eponine’ and Julia Möller , who stared as ‘Christine’ in of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ in Madrid is ‘Cosette’. Australasia’s newest musical theatre sensation Hayden Tee joins the cast as ‘Maruis’ after a triumphant New York cabaret debut. 18 new ensemble members complete this exciting new cast which promises to produce another crop of Les Miserables stars, just as the original produced Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, Frances Ruffelle, Roger Allum and Alun Armstrong.
