Two Brewers Pub, Covent Garden, London

Two Brewers Pub

40 Monmouth Street  Covent Garden
London
WC2 9EP

As one might expect of a theatrical pub, the Two Brewers looks the part. If one were to design a stage set as a pub it could very well look like this one A good bar on which to park one's elbow, warm lighting, intimate recesses and corners for a private exchange, two tiled fireplaces and round tables here and there with comfortable padded stools. And of course, varied and interesting theatrical photographs and memorabilia.

Nearby theatres include the Donmar, Cambridge and Ambassadors and the actors' union, Equity, is just down the street. One can rub shoulders with existing and future stars. The Two Brewers is a favourite haunt of students from the nearby London Film School.

The house ales are Courage Directors and Best with additional support from draught Guinness, John Smith's, Kronenbourg and Fosters. There is a good selection of bottled beers, wines and spirits. The menu includes a daily blackboard special which for a mere £3.95 offers items like chicken kiev or mushroom & stilton bake with chips and vegetables. Hard to beat! Other main courses for under £5 are traditional ham and eggs, beef and ale pie and fish and chips. The Two Brewers baguettes offer further great value at £2.45-£3.25 and in addition there are sandwiches, jacket potatoes, burgers, hot dogs and fries. Something for everybody.

Whether one is a local pub regular or a visitor to London meeting friends before going to the theatre or simply resting after too much sightseeing, the Two Brewers is a rewarding experience. Restful and fulfilling, just what you need - a local in the West End.
