| This is a wonderful pub dedicated to supplying the discerning palate of London with the multifarious delights of Dublin’s Porterhouse Brewery. These medal winning ales include Oyster Stout, Wrasslers 4X Stout, Plain Porter and for those fluent Irish speakers, An Brainblasta, which translates fairly easily. For those finding their way afresh in The Porterhouse there is a sampler tray of nine beers which should be a sound pointer.
In addition to draft, there is a truly enormous choice of bottled beer from around the world. These cost about £3 each but there are some esoteric numbers such as Belgian La Chouffe for £6.50. There is also a good selection of cocktails and shooters.
Food is served from 12pm with last orders 9:00pm. The menu is sound drinking support cuisine such as Portobello mushroom burger £5.75 and oyster stout sausages £5.95. You can also have oysters and mussels and a selection of sharing items such as potato wedges and chicken wings.
The Porterhouse occupies three floors with a very fine bar on each floor and a myriad of snugs and corners for those in need of an intimate drink, as well as ample room for the gregarious toper. The furnishings are of very pleasing oak and leather and the wood panelled ceiling is a great success and matches perfectly the widespread use of gleaming copper piping throughout the interior. A feature of the décor is a large collection of bottled beers in glass cases. If you can introduce a new one to the collection, you will win a free pint!
The people who own The Porterhouse know what they are doing and care about their craft. |
