Boulevard Bar and Brasserie, Covent Garden is a most charming, buzzy restaurant situated in the heart of Covent Garden, set on three floors and a short step from many of the best theatre shows in town.

The ground floor has scrubbed pine and oak tables for couples or groups of up to eight so providing an intimate corner or bonhomie as the diner wishes. Mirrors and photographs of Paris adorn the walls and floor to ceiling frosted windows face the street. The table settings are candle lit and welcoming. Upstairs, the French windows are truly magnificent with orange surrounds matching perfectly the green verdure in wrought iron window boxes.

Cuisine is imaginative without losing sight of its time-tested origins so no French charm is lost in this buzzy venue. Snacks and light bites are also available for those diners in an unseemly haste but with time to be tempted by such delights as minute steak sandwich with French fries; croque monsieur. Daily specials from the blackboard add even further variety so you are totally spoilt for choice. . Don't forget the pre-theatre menu 2/3 courses 15.95/18.95.

French classics from the menu include: MOULES MARINIERES & FRITES mussels cooked in white wine, garlic, parsley & cream . 15.95; BOEUF BOURGUIGNON & MASH braised beef stew in red wine, lardons & mushrooms 16.95; TOULOUSE CASSOULET . 17.95 rich, slow-cooked cannellini bean stew with Toulouse sausages, duck confit & bacon lardons COQ AU VI 16.95 chicken cooked in red wine with bacon lardons, shallots, button mushroom and brown rice; BOUILLABAISSE of hake, gurnard, salmon, sea bass, tuna and tiger prawns 19.95 An excellent wine list compliments the menu. The selection shows a loyalty to French wines but New World and Spanish wines are also present. There is a wide choice for under 20 per bottle.

Finally, if one is of a mind to try to recreate at home the delights of the Boulevard Bar & Brasserie cuisine, then there is no better place to find the ingredients than the Boulevard Deli next door, yet another pleasant surprise from the thoughtful people at Boulevard Bar & Brasserie.
