| Anyone familiar with the Eastern Mediterranean will rejoice in the wide range of starters and mezes for which the region is well known. The Sofra menu bears this out in splendid abundance with an abundance of mezes to choose from. The main courses, including a seafood section, are almost as numerous as the mezes. Prices are on average around £8.00 per course and apart from traditional shish dishes there are such delights as lamb gouvech with oregano, hunkar begendi also known as Sultan's delight and, to the uninitiated, gently stewed diced lamb and smokey flavoured aubergine puree. The seafood menu includes sea bass steak with Mediterranean vegetables and halibut with red and green peppers. Some diners may be interested in the drunken kalamar which is rings of kalamar marinated in vodka and milk and deep fried in batter until crisp and garnished with walnuts, garlic and olive oil. A sense of adventure will yield considerable rewards when addressing the delights of this extensive menu. |
